Highlights

Top notch fruity-cookies terpene profile
Heavyweight bag appeal
Great daytime choice

Experience

Simply put, Billo’s Trop Cherry flower is seriously excellent cannabis. It scored high marks across all key categories for us on account of its richly fruity aroma, flavorfully smooth smoking experience, and spirited effects. It’s also unmistakably appealing visually, with each nug exhibiting a completely deep, dark grape purple color. Even though the anthocyanins don’t make it more potent or affect its characteristics outside of how it looks, the sum of its parts combine to make this batch of Trop Cherry something special.

Appearance, Bud Structure, Density, & Hydration

From just the first glance, the Trop Cherry we got from Billo was one of the best looking strains they had on the shelf. There’s just something vaguely hypnotic about cannabis that is completely purple, even though I damn well know that it makes about zero difference on how it smells, tastes, or feels. Maybe it’s just the fact that it’s not super common, or that when I was younger, whenever I got a bag of Grape Ape or Granddaddy Purple it felt like I had won the lottery.

In any event, Billo’s Trop Cherry has bag appeal for days. Each bud is on the large size of medium, has chunky calyxes, and is enveloped in frosty trichomes. It’s also a little on the denser side, but was very amenable to being broken up. It’s enjoyable to work with properly dried yet very sticky cannabis, which is exactly what we received.

Aroma

If you’ve ever had the pleasure of trying the strain Tropicana Cookies in flower or solventless hash form, then you’ll know more or less what to expect from Trop Cherry, but with a tart cherry twist. Trop Cherry is a cross between Tropicana Cookies (which is itself the famous Girl Scout Cookies x Tangie) and Cherry Cookies. Its parent strains were named appropriately as it turns out. In this case, that means double the cookies parentage, but what it delivers is serious citrus terpenes as well that manifest themselves as a deep, cherried oranges liqueur aroma. It’s only at the very tail end of the scent spectrum that you get a hint of cookies, but it is there and rather relaxed.

Mode of Consumption

I didn’t want to just look at the Trop Cherry and break up a little bit for my usual mini sampler bowl, I wanted to get into it. One thing led to another and I found myself rolling up a pinner without having quite consciously decided to. It just told me what to do, and the sticky factor required some additional post-rolling hand cleanup. It's a dark plum hue inside and out, which makes for a beautiful joint, especially if you’re using a white colored rolling paper.

Flavors, Mouthfeel, & Ash Color

It’s apparent from the first hit that the Trop Cherry has some punch and certainly isn’t quiet on the palate. The flavor upfront is a delightful union of earthy and tart fruit that rounds itself out into a creamy, slightly hashy aftertaste. The smoking experience is nice and smooth, as it’s pretty obvious that the genetics were well expressed from the garden. It’s really hard not to love this one if you typically enjoy fruity or dessert-forward strains. The flavor isn’t necessarily complex, but it doesn’t have to be either. It’s full bodied and burned down to the ultra light gray ash I was hoping to see.

Effects

This is a really fun strain that lends itself quite nicely to most daytime activities. The Billo cultivated Trop Cherry really puts a bit of wind in the ole’ sails, as the saying goes. I found it to be both elevating and a little bit daydreamy in its effects. I felt noticeably less focused than I usually would after burning a more lucid sativa perhaps, but in a way that was oddly contemplative. What’s on deck for the rest of the week, and was there anything easy I could get done at the moment? These were the kinds of thoughts going through my head as I worked through a couple of chores, got my to-do list settled, and started cooking dinner. As the high wore down it became amicable and relaxed, not sleepy, which felt well earned. The Trop Cherry is the kind of cannabis for most people that would help you get through your day and then leave you sitting comfortably at the end of it. Like it was noted earlier on in the review, this cross is great across the board, and the effects are what give it the final nod of approval to be a true TerpGuide Premium product. I could come back to this one again and again; there’s a better chance than not that you probably could too.
